How to personalize your account and start your home search.

Welcome! You should have an email with this info, but we wanted to make sure it was easy to find here, too. If you've already done the steps from the email, you're good to go!
Pretty excited to welcome you to the Willowfinch crew! The data you’ll get when using your new account will make a huge impact on your housing search. By adding some goals and personal details, you can see real projections for different neighborhoods and properties.
That true cost-of-living is where the real power of the Willowfinch tools comes in.
You’ll be able to make small changes to your numbers and possible property choices and see what it does to your goals right away. As time goes on, you’ll be able to watch your progress and adjust things whenever you need to to stay on track or if your plans change.

Not sure about a number? Have a mortgage that’s paid off? Don’t want to share too much just yet? You get to choose how specific you want to be, and you can always add more details as time goes on.

Make sure you’ve customized your personal information, income, expenses, housing, and retirement planning numbers. Then you can dive into comparing properties.

Steps for Personalization:
  1. Add your personal info and location, with as much as you’d like to share. Remember, more details gives more specific comparisons and projections.
  2. Tell us about your current housing expenses, taxes, and other expenses.
  3. Set some goals for the housing search! Think about down payment, interest rates, and total budget.
  4. Tax time! Not literally, of course (whew). But tell us a bit about what filing and paying taxes looks like for your household.
  5. Add in any plans or goals you have for your retirement income streams and timelines. Hit Save or Update as needed through these steps.

You’ll be able to take a look at what your saved info would mean for your cash flow. Do your current numbers add up the way you want them to? If not, make adjustments anywhere you’d like.
Steps for Adding Properties to your Willowfinch Map:
  1. Click and drag the green “Save to Willowfinch” button up to your bookmarks. If you can save it to a Bookmarks Bar, that makes it even easier to access as you look through properties.
  2. Search for properties using Redfin, Zillow, or
  3. See a property you love? Click the “Save to Willowfinch” bookmark.
  4. Go to the heatmap on your Willowfinch account to see it or update specifics about the property. You can find it by clicking “My Maps” on the top tabs and then clicking on the newly saved property on the map.
  5. Click “See Details” on the property popup. You’ll be able to see information like taxes, mortgage estimates, and health insurance. You can update some of the information and make your own notes by clicking the edit button in the top right corner.
That’s all! Keep adding properties as you find them. Your heatmap will start to show you where your favorite properties do and don’t meet your goals.

Give it a try and see what you fall in love with. Search a few different locations. Expand your plans or goals a bit. You’ll be able to see the impact of small shifts on your finances and goals right away!
